A brief explanation as to why this announcement is monumental. As some of you know, we record everything in an improvised fashion. This is going to change a bit for us going forward.
Our Session series is based on live-in-studio recordings. Often they are edited and polished a bit, but are generally us feeding off each other in a live fashion. Overdubs are never a thing. We may EQ or Compress/Limit things to some extent, and have even automated faders to punch something up or reign something in, but by and large what you hear is what we did. We have always released these for “Pay what you will” and will continue too.
Our Live series comes to you warts and all. We certainly mix and master those tracks, but anything that was unintended or didn’t really work out, goes in regardless. Most often we can get the audience reaction, but not always. We have always released these for “Pay what you will” and will continue too.
With this new process, we are going to use the “call and response” method to jump start recordings. One of us will record a length of music and the other will overdub to it. We will still be improvising, but with a bit more intention; slightly less chaos. We may even cut sections out and resample ourselves. The options are endless. We will be charging for these releases.
